“Jesus, A Friend Of Sinners – Part 2 ”

“A Study Of The Book Of Luke ”

Sermon Series

Pastor Emeritus Kenny Hurst’s Basic Sermon Outline

–  All religions in the world today are either based on human achievement or divine accomplishment.

–  Christianity is based on divine accomplishment.  Jesus Christ coming to this world and taking upon Himself the sinner’s punishment.

      –

      –

–  Levi’s Conversion

            –  Levi wasn’t seeking Jesus, but Jesus was seeking Levi.

            –  There is a great contrast between a tax collector and an apostle of Jesus Christ.

            –  The effectual call is when Jesus reaches in to a sinner’s heart, changing it to a heart saved by God’s wondrous grace and mercy.

            –  All who are saved are effectually called.

            –  Luke 5:27-29

            –

            –

–  The Pharisees Criticism

            –  Levi also goes by the name, Matthew (the tax collector).

            –  The death, burial and resurrection of Jesus Christ is sufficient in the salvation of a lost soul.

            –  The effectual call can also be referred to as the adequate call.

            –  The Pharisees are angered by the fact that Jesus would associate with tax collectors (publicans) and sinners.

            –  As children of God we are commissioned to go forth and spread the precious Gospel message of Jesus Christ, far and wide.  We are to be a light in a dark world.

            –  Luke 5:29-30

            –  John 17:15-18

            –

            –

–  Jesus’s Compassion

            –  Luke 5:31-32

            –
